This speaker is definitely on my top 10 list of "best things I've ever spent my money on". I researched the heck out of speakers- reviews, listening to them in the stores, etc. Altec sucked. Doesn't even compare. I listened to the Sony at Target, and was afraid to turn it up all the way- thought they'd throw me out of the store. Didn't distort at all. The sound of the Sony speaker, in my opinion, rates closer to Bose, then to the other speakers in the Sony's price range. I will admit that depending on the acoustics of the room you have it in, the sound will vary, but don't let this stop you from purchasing it. This thing is so loud, that you'll probably rarely listen to it at these levels, and trust me- if you like loud like I do, you won't be disappointed.
I'm very anal when it comes to sound quality. I worked in rock clubs for years and always hung out with soundmen. I was looking for a portable speaker with substantial bass, (not an easy task, in fact I was beginning to think it didn't exist, unless I wanted to spend a fortune. The bass in this speaker is shocking, especially for it's size. (By the way, if you hook it up to an mp3 player other than an Ipod, the sound is just average.)
I use this speaker when I travel. Granted, it's a bit heavier than a JBL, but you're not going to get the same sound quality out of the JBL, so, with pleasure, I will cart around my Sony- it's well worth it.
I bought it from Amazon for $89.00, which was sheer luck considering the retail price, and as another reviewer stated, it's well worth the regular price.
If you're exhausted from reading reviews, and becoming as indecisive and frustrated as I was, you can stop right here. My advice is, if Amazon has it for under retail, jump on it and don't look back. God forbid, if something happened to mine, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. |

| Open the box, plug it in and it works. Decent sound quality - not nearly as good as the Bose wave system but at this price its great. Use the equalizer on your iPhone/Ipod to adjust the sound. Fits great on top of the fridge and fills the kitchen with music. I'm very pleased. If you need the best sound possible this is not your product. However, for its size, its relative portability, an extra audio input, and a surprisingly deep bass sound...and the price ... its perfect. |
